As the production manager, Gerry led a project to revolutionize the manufacturing of semi-finished products within his department of Michelin Tires (Canada) Ltd. He reorganized the production shop into product lines, and enhanced the production worker and supervisor responsibilities to include quality management and equipment setup.
With these changes and the re-organization of workers into self-directed work teams, improvements of 30 percent in productivity and 20 percent in quality were achieved. These innovations in production, quality and maintenance were implemented in many operations across the Michelin world.
